The Blue Badge

The Blue Badge is a parking permit that is issued by local authorities in the United Kingdom to people with disabilities, including those who are blind, have severe mobility problems or have a severe and permanent disability that affects their ability to walk. The Blue Badge allows the holder to park their vehicle in designated disabled parking spaces, which are usually located close to amenities and services.

The Blue Badge scheme is designed to help people with disabilities who have mobility problems to park closer to their destination, reducing the distance they have to walk. The badge can be displayed in any vehicle in which the badge holder is travelling, whether as a driver or passenger, and can be used in any on-street parking bay and in some off-street car parks.

The Blue Badge is issued to individuals, and is not transferable to other people. They can be used across the UK, but the specific rules and regulations for the use of Blue Badges may vary between different local authorities.

Eligibility for a Blue Badge is based on a person's mobility, rather than their particular medical condition. The application process typically involves an assessment of the individual's mobility and functional abilities.
