Carer
You provide support to a spouse, partner, child, parent, relative, friend or neighbour who cannot manage without your help. This includes those receiving carers allowance.
All carers are eligible for our carers card, including those receiving a financial benefit such as carers allowance.
"A carer is anyone, including children and adults who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction and cannot cope without their support." NHSofficial definition
Carers CAN be:
an unpaid carer
a carer who receives a financial benefit
a young person under 18 looking after a parent/brother/sister
looking after a relative with a mental illness or physical disability
the parent of a child with special needs (inc. ADHD & Autism)
a friend or relative looking after an older person
You are a professional carer who has trained and is paid to look after people. Paid carers include, home care workers, care agency workers, support & social workers, etc.
The following types of professional carers are eligible for our carers card:
Paid Carers, Support Workers or Personal Assistants
Care Agency Workers
Care Home Workers
Care Home/Agency Employers
Anyone working in Social Care, including Social Workers
User Led Organisation (ULO) workers, such as a charity
